The Culmination of Glory

The Culmination of Glory

Currently I am participating in a course through Perspectives on the World Christian Movement. This is our third week out of fifteen and I am already gaining a deep re-connection to the greatness of God and His purpose for His glory to spread throughout the earth through His Church.

It’s been amazing, and it’s also rekindled an awe and hunger for God that I hadn’t felt in years; what several people label as “the fire of discipleship” in which we can do nothing but ponder the things of God and desire to pursue His glory at all times.

“We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.” – 2 Corinthians 4:8-10

One of the biggest things I’m meditating on doesn’t actually have to do with missions, but simply contemplating the character of God & being filled with it’s impact. Particularly the goodness of Him – His mercy, His compassion, His steadfastness and faithfulness, and especially His patience, or long-suffering, with me.

I am brought to my knees as I think of all the Scripture references that say God is close to the broken-hearted (Psalm 34:18; Psalm 147:1-3), He is with us & will never leave us (Deuteronomy 31:8; 2 Corinthians 4:8-10), He gives us peace in the midst of turmoil (John 14:27, Romans 5:1-2), He is the source of our strength when we are weak (Psalm 73:26; 2 Corinthians 12:9).

Even when we fail to exemplify Him to our families or even strangers, He greatly loves us & intercedes for us because we know Him. He has already covered our failures with His grace. He has already called us His sons and daughters.

“Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.”
– Hebrews 7:25

“And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”
– Romans 8:27

The culmination of glory resides in the One who sacrificed everything for me. For you. He alone exemplified the grace & mercy of God as He laid down his very life for the opportunity to see us in eternity.

I am awed that I mean that much to Him. It’s unfathomable and I don’t understand it… but I’m not supposed to. His ways and thoughts are higher than mine (Isaiah 55:9), there are some things I just won’t be able to understand. And that’s why faith is required, for the things that we just need to trust God on (Hebrews 11:1).

Let us rejoice that we love, serve & worship a God who truly is God. That nothing else comes close to His glory & understanding. Praise God that He chose me to be in His family so I can be more and more like Him over time with each opportunity to rest in His faithfulness instead of my abilities and character (2 Corinthians 3:18). I fail every day, but He never does.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” – 1 Peter 2:24
